On Friday 30th October, the International Scale Modeller community organised and ran a Charity Auction in aid of Models for Heroes. News of the auction and the rarity of some of the lots spread around the modelling community forums and facebook pages. Donated kits from around the globe were sent by the general public, distributors, manufacturers and supporters of the cause. These were auctioned off through YouTube’s chat function.
On the night there were nearly 300 people watching and bidding. After 3 hours the 58 bids were complete. The week immediately following the auction Models for Heroes will be sending out the lots to the generous and eager winners from the USA, Australia, Europe and the UK. Normal service will resume with the ISM Crew on their channel on Friday Night and have vowed to be ready when the next one is planned.
“The funds raised by the auction will soften huge hole in fundraising during this year’s Spring and Summer. A vast amount of our monetary donations come through the model shows and exhibitions especially Scale Model World in which we attend with fundraising tins. With these obviously closed for safety, our usual avenues are closed. It was amazing of ISM to help us again and run such a well planned and attended charity auction for our bravest. It is encouraging for the M4H Team to see the well-being of our Emergency Services, Veterans and Serving Personnel being celebrated by our great hobby community.”– Malcolm Childs, Founder of Models for Heroes.
The funds will be used to continue the many projects Models for Heroes support. Namely, new groups in Dundee, Brighton, Northern Ireland and Leeds. With the news of a second lockdown Models for Heroes are ready again to support charities and organisations on an aligned mission.
Well done to everyone involved in the auction.
